We've Made The Move to Idaho! AND A #GIVEAWAY!

THE WINNER OF THE GIVEAWAY IS MARY ANNE FOX.
CONGRATULATIONS!

Well 2020 has certainly been an interesting year for us. I haven't been blogging too much this year, my plate has been full. As many have been and are currently doing, we have made the move from California to Idaho. It's very different living in a neighborhood again after so many years of living in the forest. We couldn't be happier! We have the most amazing and wonderful neighbors, everyone has been by to introduce themselves with plates of cookies, boxes of donuts, loaves of bread and more. It feels incredible to live in a place where you don't have to worry about a forest fire racing through or the power being arbitrarily being shut off for days at a time. I could go on and on about the multitude of benefits to us living here but nuff said. It was a good move.

We are very close to the Teton's National Park and Yellowstone.

The day trips have been enjoyable and it has been amazing to see the fall colors of the trees.

The move was a lot of work. Packing on the other end, letting go of many things and unpacking on this end. The majority of the boxes on the street level have been unpacked and put away, there are still a few, which I hope to have done this week. The upstairs is another story...LOL. We ordered four bookcases for all my books and I fear we are still in need of another!

I did get the pantry painted, new hardware installed on the door so it would shut and just yesterday installed a new low profile LED light fixture. It's like daylight in there now! We hung some more pictures in our library yesterday and took down the black drapery rods, pulled the molly bolt fasteners, sanded and spackled up the holes. Today I will touch up the area with paint.

There is another cold storage area in our basement, so this pantry gets used for everyday stuff.

Today, I am planning on working on my temporary sewing room which I have located upstairs in one of our four bedrooms. We will be finishing the basement with sheetrock and putting in another bathroom (it's already plumbed for one), once that is completed and flooring is in, then that will become my studio. I will have plenty of room for my longarm and all the rest. (oh my gosh, that means I have to move all of this down two flights of stairs!!!)

I lost 15 pounds the first month here, just running up and down the stairs! Imagine that!!! So our first winter in Idaho. We have already experienced a bit of snow, the winds and cold.  I'm great with all of that.  Our truck was totaled the second week we were here (there are some crazy drivers out there, it's like running a gauntlet...if you are from out of state and just moving here, drive very, very, very, defensively. Also, change your license plate the minute you arrive. Just trust me on that. Most folks are very nice but there are some that are not happy with folks relocating here and if they see your plate...well. And one more bit of advice, I don't like to get political on my blog I'll just repeat what was said to us...leave your liberal politics in the state where you left them...they will not be appreciated by anyone up here. Your gonna fit right in! LOL.

Well, that brings you up to date on things here. I'm gonna see if I can make some sense of this sewing room mess today! Wish me luck!!!

And now you know why I haven't been posting much quilting as of late...LOL.

  1. So glad you are getting settled in. Hopefully, by the time Spring arrives we can meet in person. From now on plan your outings by the darker lines on the roads-they spray that on the day before an oncoming snowstorm. Pick up bread, milk, eggs, batting, etc! Then plan on quilting for days without leaving the house. People here don’t drive well in the snow.

    1. Christie, I am so looking forward to getting things set up. If you have followed along, you may know that we downsized from a larger home to a very tiny home a couple years ago and I have been sewing in a very tiny room, it's nice to have more space at the new house!

  20. HI, just wondering if you used the agency that helps folks leave the oppression in Calif. They help you find a home and job etc. Good advice you gave too. be well always.

    1. I didn't know there was an agency...LOL. We could not get out of California fast enough. Both of us have lived most of our lives in California and in our late 60's this was a big undertaking but I am so happy, I don't miss a thing about California. All of the things we loved have been ruined by the folks in charge politically there, it's very sad. I feel almost like I fell into a time tunnel and was whisked back to when I was a small child...the way folks treat each other here, kind, wonderful!

  21. Missed your posts on fb since the move! Exciting stuff! I've never chosen a place to live; went from my father's house to my husband's house and think I've missed out on that phase, but I don't even the packing up everything and weeding through stuff to take and leave behind. I'd love a pantry like that too. Oh, and one of my daughters got engaged in the Tetons! If you need to contact me, I am Mickey Louth on fb.

    1. Mickey, you are blessed. It is fun to pick your place to live but there is something special about the security that I am sure you feel. The pantry part is easy, bins from Walmart, containers and can racks from Amazon. I think including paint and the light fixture, we came in under $200 on the redo. It has made a huge difference, being able to see and find things.

  22. Wondering what made you decide on the move to Idaho beside the conditions in CA? Moving is exciting, scary and a LOT of work on both ends.

    1. Susan, I love a good adventure! I was a Navy brat so moving around and experiencing new places and new people is in my DNA. We have some dear friends that moved from Colfax, California about 6 years ago to Rigby, Idaho. They invited us up and we have come to visit them, just about every year. We drove all over the state and just fell in love with this side. More conservative was appealing to us. Large LDS population was appealing to us. We literally bought our home over the internet, site unseen, other than photos and a Facetime walk through. It was scary. I remember my husbands reaction when we drove out to see what we had purchased, he took one look when he walked in the door and said, OH H--- NO! I had to calm him down. LOL. He had driven for 13 hours straight and wasn't thinking clearly...he loves the house now too. It was daring and I'm glad we dared!

  25. Congrats on your move to Idaho!!!!!! My son is here in north central AR taking care of me for the time being. He was here from May 5th to Oct 5th and Oncologist called him back when I was admitted to the hospital. Couldn't put 2 words together and they thought I had had a stroke - until they did a brain scan - oops - brain cancer. 10 days of radiation and now waiting on a call from MD Anderson in Houston. Son says he is taking me back to TX - I am not ready!!!!!!!! I am a quilter, they said I can still sew, and realize that I will have to clear my stable of 25 machines - use all but 6. Thanks for a fantastic giveaway!!!!!!!!
